These are not actually railway sleepers ; technically they should be called bulk timbers because they are manufactured new and have never seen use on a railway; but being so similar in size to the traditional used ones its easier to think of them simply as New Sleepers.

New Oak Sleepers – These are almost totally regular blocks of wood of the size described below, but about 10% of them have lightly chambered edges; as if a corner had been planed off to make it look more natural. This is because some of these are machined from the edge of a large block of timber, where the natural sides and curvature of the tree itself can be seen
